San Diego Beach, Lian Batangas

Lian is a small municipality south of Metro Manila in the province of Batangas. This municipality is actually known for the white sand beach of Matabungkay. It is also a few minutes away from Nasugbu beach, which is another popular tourist spot. However, not many people know that there is this quiet stretch of public beach in Barangay San Diego, Lian Batangas.

The beach area is quite long and probably quite an exercise if you walk the entire stretch. There are not that many tourist, so you can enjoy the sea breeze and the sound of the waves in quiet solitude, just bring your beach towel, beach umbrella and maybe a book or two. There are no huts on the beach except a couple of fishermen boats. Also the waves are quite high during the rainy season, which a surfer probably would enjoy. However, they say that summer is the best time to go, for the sea is calmer. There are no lifeguards, by the way, so swimming is at your own risk.

According to the residents, there is a cave on the far end of the beach where inside you can jump and swim at a pool of sea water. However, going there is not advisable during high tide. The sad part is that the sandy rocky beach going there are littered with garbage, like shoes, shirts, bottles, however, it has been a year since we’ve last visited. We have mentioned it to the local barangay and hopefully they have organized a clean-up drive since then. Also you can rent a fishing boat to go to Fortune Island.

There are many beach houses dotting the beach, where you can rent and spend a night or a weekend. The houses and cottages price starts from ₱3000/night and up. Also there is a fee of ₱20/pax that the local barangay collects and ₱50 for parking.

All in all, if you are just looking for a sleepy, peaceful or tranquil place to relax and unwind, this beach maybe for you. It is just a few minutes away from the touristy area if you are inclined to mingle with the crowd. Go there and see for yourself. Who knows you might have found a new go-to place just two and a half hours away from South Manila.

  • From Zapote-Alabang Rd. head towards SLEX
  • Ply South SLEX to Sta. Rosa-Tagaytay Rd.
  • Exit Right towards Sta. Rosa-Tagaytay Rd
  • Continue straight to Tagaytay
  • Turn Right Tagaytay-Nasugbu Hwy
  • Continue on Palico-Nasugbu Hwy to San Diego Beach, Lian, Batangas
