Ira Levinson is in trouble. At ninety-one years old and alone in the world, he finds himself stranded on an isolated embankment after a car crash. Suffering multiple injuries, he struggles to retain conciousness until a blurry image matetializes and comes into focus beside him: his beloved wife, Ruth, who passed away nine years ago. Urging him to hang on, she forces him to remain alert by reminiscing about their lifetime together. Ira knows that Ruth can’t possibly be in the car with him, but he clings to her words and his memories.

A few miles away, at a local bull-riding event, a Wake Forest University senior’s life is about to change. Recovering from a recent breakup, Sophia Danko meets a young cowboy named Luke. Through Luke, Sophia is introduced to a world in which the stakes are high: Reward and ruin–and even life and death–loom large in everyday life. As she and Luke fall in love, Sophia finds herself imagining a future far removed from her plans–if the secret Luke’s keeping doesn’t destroy it first.

Ira and Ruth. Sophia and Luke. Two couples who have little in common and who are separated by years and experience. Yet their lives will converge with unexpected poignancy, reminding us all that even the most difficult decisions can yield extraordinary journeys.

One of the most heartwarming, sweet love story that will leave a mark in your hearts, this is what Nicholas Sparks awakens in all of us in his novel, The Longest Ride.

A few pages off from the very beginning, I knew I would love this novel. It intrigued me as to where the story would lead. I had an idea that the characters, Ira, Sophia and Luke, would cross path sometime, but I did not expect the romance. The love, devotion, passion and respect between Ira and Ruth, prior to her demise nine years ago as well as Ira’s present day feelings. His love for his late wife, now in his 90’s, was so heartrending, but awe-inspiring at the same time. It was a one truelove kind of love, of soul-mates madly in love that stood the test of time, and a love which they believe would continue on in heaven. It was a love that really touched my heart and left goose bumps all over.

Then there were Luke and Sophia, just starting their love story. Like Ira, Luke, a bull rider, fell in love with Sophia, who was an art major college student. Their love was like a slow sweet love-affair that blossomed, I don’t know but it was not the intense feeling that I felt with Ira. Nonetheless, Luke and Sophia’s love endured even in life changing issues. They were going down from the mountain cabin when they encountered Ira’s car crash. They then attended Ira’s art auction, which would lead to a change in their lives forever.

Nicholas Sparks had hit the right spots in my heart with this book. I loved the ending. It was the ending of a love story and the beginning of another. It was a moving story simply written, that would truly captivate you to read on until the end. I really liked this novel and would recommend it to everyone looking for a romantic read, or just a good read in general. This was my first book by Nicholas Sparks but definitely not the last. And so I rate this book 4 cute bookworm out of 5.
